A Doll Styling Commission

This is a 16" replica of the wedding ensemble of Helen Keenan Powers and her sister Mary Keenan. It was created from wedding photos from 1948, for Mrs. Debbie Powers Gonyou, Helen's daughter. I will be adding construction details for those who aspire to learn to make doll creations from silk satin, and lace.

Alex in her Liberty of London bouffant sundress, ready for the "dinner on the ground" at the small country church.

The small chest of drawers seen under the hanging garments is sitting in the trunk without being fastened down. I am still working on it and will make more drawers for small things like jewelry and sunglasses. Am debating as to painting it dark grey, like the cabinet edges, or cream, like the cabinet interior. I may eventually fasten it to the far right side of the closet, where blouses still have room to hang above it.

The trunk for Alex's clothes closet came "finished" from Hobby Lobby, as did the unfinished box with a glass front and dividers, and trim. After installing the closet rod with decorative medallions, I painted and finished the box  (cabinet), which serves to organize the accessories. Three layers of heavy cardboard (the back of an art paper tablet) covered with black fabric and cut to fit the curved trunk lid prevents items from falling behind the accessories cabinet. Wood trim, painted to match the cabinet and glued in place gives the installation a finished look. I am still working on it, and am thinking of ways to keep items placed on top of the cabinet in place when the trunk is closed or opened. Have a few ideas rolling around.
